The Program opens with an impetuous, remarkably fleet-fingered,
and diversely characterized account of Abegg Variations. Fukuma's talents
further shine in the Novelletten. This young pianist's impressive pianism
and insightful musicianship bode well for future recordings.

As if filled with some of the composer's passion and whimsy,
Fukuma infuses his intelligent interpretations with poetry and
a wideranging imagination. One can't help but appreciate his phrase
shaping and timing in the three late fantasy pieces from Opus 111.
Listeners will find a sensitivity to challenging textures and characters,
to Schumann's propensity to think in many strands counterpoint. So textures
are balanced beautifully, and the ear is drawn to lovely inner lines.
